Hands-on: ESR’s 45W Xtend charger is an excellent iPhone fast charger on the go
Last month, ESR released a new set of chargers under the xtend branding – all of which offer built-in retractable cables. They have a 45W wall charger that supports up to 60W with AVS, as well as a 100W car charger with two cables. Last month, ESR released a new set of chargers under the xtend branding – all of which offer built-in retractable cables. They have a 45W wall charger that supports up to 60W with AVS, as well as a 100W car charger with two cables.
I’ll largely be touching on the 45W charger here, as that’s the one I’ve been utilizing the most.
Chargers with built-in retractable cables have been a larger trend in the past year or so, and ESR’s new chargers offer larger cables than usual. On the 45W Xtend charger, you get up to 3.1ft of cable length with the built in cable, compared to other offerings which are around 2.2ft.
I’ve been carrying around ESR’s new 45W charger for the past few weeks since it debuted, and I like it quite a bit. It comes in a few color options: black, white, as well as burgundy to match the iPhone 18 Pro.
You don’t only have to rely on the built-in retractable cable. The charger also offers a normal USB-C port for connecting any cable you’d like, including a longer one.
Personally, I love packing it for travel. Throwing a charging brick and a cable into a bag can be a little cumbersome at times, especially since cables can get tangled. I find chargers with retractable cables quite refreshing since they’re much easier to deal with in a pinch.
45W alone is plenty for fast charging any iPhone, but it also supports up to 60W dynamic charging with AVS, which’ll unlock the fastest charge speeds on iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max.
Wrap up
ESR’s 45W xtend charger is normally available for $49.99, though right now it’s on sale for as low as $35.99 on Amazon in the white colorway. Burgundy is also available for $41.99, saving you 20%.
Their 100W car charger also offers two retractable cables, as well as an extra USB-A port. I don’t have many thoughts to offer on the car charger as I don’t drive, but I would imagine it’s nice to not have to deal with cables in your center console area. With 100W, you can fast charge pretty much any iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air, or base 14-inch MacBook Pro. It’s available for just $36.99 on Amazon right now, a $20 discount.
