- Google confirmed at the Android Dev Summit that Googlebook detachables are coming “soon.”
- Lenovo’s Googlebook Duet m could be the first Googlebook detachable.
- The company recently received FCC certification for a detachable Googlebook keyboard and stylus.
At the Android Dev Summit last week, Google said that Googlebook form factors will go beyond those currently available. The company confirmed that Googlebook detachables are coming soon, joining the existing clamshell and convertible designs that launched in September. If you’re wondering which company could launch the first Googlebook detachable, you don’t need to look too hard.
Remember the Lenovo Googlebook Duet m? The 2-in-1 Googlebook with a detachable keyboard was one of the many devices we expected to see at the Googlebook launch. Although it didn’t appear then, it seems it could be coming soon. We’ve already seen highly detailed leaked images of Lenovo’s yet-to-launch Googlebook detachable, and now we’re getting even more hints that it’s getting closer to a launch.
A Lenovo Bluetooth keyboard and a Lenovo stylus recently appeared in the FCC database (via ChromeUnboxed) with FCC IDs O57DUET13BTKB and O57AP501U1, respectively. The FCC documentation for the keyboard confirms that it’s meant for a Googlebook device, thanks to the “Googlebook” branding on the left palm rest. The device schematics also clearly show the pogo pins that will connect the keyboard to the Lenovo Googlebook Duet m.
Previous leaks have also given us a fairly good idea of the specs for the Lenovo Googlebook Duet m. It’s expected to feature a 13-inch display, 16GB of RAM, and a MediaTek Dimensity CX C10 Max processor. A MediaTek processor could also help Lenovo’s Googlebook detachable offer better support for Android apps than Intel-powered Googlebooks.
A detachable Googlebook makes a ton of sense for many users, especially those who told us that they were waiting for more Googlebooks. The added flexibility of a laptop that can turn into a tablet on demand could convince users who may have been considering a tablet. Google didn’t mention a timeline for Googlebooks with detachable keyboards beyond saying that they’re coming “soon.” However, with FCC certification out of the way for at least some of Lenovo’s accessories, a detachable launch might not be too far off.
