According to a new report from TrendForce, Apple is prepared to capture nearly 30 percent of the global foldable smartphone market by 2027, thanks to exceptionally strong initial demand for the iPhone Duo device. One day after the official introduction of the iPhone Duo, TrendForce predicted that Apple would ship about 5 million units of its first foldable iPhone by the end of 2026, capturing a 24.8 percent market share. At the time, the research firm estimated that the overall foldable phone market would experience a minimal growth of 0.5 percent in 2026, while shipment volumes for Android brands would face a year-over-year decline of over 20 percent.

Looking ahead to 2027, TrendForce expects the foldable market to reach a shipment volume of 23.5 million units, representing a 16.3 percent growth. The firm notes that Apple's entry could drive future growth by advancing foldable device technology, while new artificial intelligence use cases are expected to further boost demand.

Now, nearly a week after the official release of the iPhone Duo, TrendForce has reaffirmed its earlier projections in a new report, forecasting that Apple will claim a 29.8 percent share of the foldable phone market in 2027. The research firm highlights Apple's greatest advantage as its ability to integrate chips, the operating system, and the developer ecosystem. With enhanced application compatibility and hardware upgrades, the iPhone Duo is expected to expand the practical value of foldable devices more effectively and shift market competition from form-factor innovations to multitasking efficiency.

If these TrendForce predictions materialize, Apple will rank second in the foldable phone market in 2027, trailing Samsung. Samsung's market share is estimated to drop from 35.1 percent in 2026 to 31.9 percent the following year. Meanwhile, Apple is expected to stay ahead of Huawei, whose market share is projected to decline from 24.8 percent to 21.3 percent.
